
What to expect after quitting
Quitting smoking can be difficult but it is important to remember that:
Most of the side effects of quitting are NOT dangerous.
Most side effects GET BETTER with time.
The first week may be the hardest but it GETS EASIER after 3-4 weeks, so hang in there.
Cigarettes and Vape-After quitting
You may be irritable and uneasy/anxious, moody and tense.
You may feel sad or lack confidence.
You may have an increased appetite and weight gain(temporary).
You may crave a smoke.
You might have flu like symptoms-like a dry throat, or cough.
Some people experience trouble sleeping.
Rarely, you may have stomach pain, constipation or diarrhea (less frequent).
The first 2 to 3 weeks are the most challenging.
Try to relax as much, keep well hydrated, eat healthy and exercise and keep busy as much as you can.
Avoid any tea/coffee at night so you can sleep better.
Avoid alcohol if possible, so your chances of relapse are lower.
Weed/Cannabis
Effects of quitting Cannabis use
Feel restless/irritable/tense /low/moody.
Have reduced appetite.
Lose weight.
Have poor sleep/lack of sleep.
Have vivid dreams/nightmares.
Have cravings/an urge to smoke.
Feel unwell-Have abdominal pain, feel feverish, have a tremor and headache.
These can last between 1-3 weeks.
Most of these effects improve with time.
Trouble with sleep can persist for several weeks.
Medication can be used for short term symptom relief and to treat agitation but overall, most symptoms get better with time.
