Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection .

a pus-like vaginal discharge and bleeding after intercourse

Why is it important?
Because its a major cause of infertility, yet can be treated
It can cause premature births of babies and ectopic pregnancies (pregnancy outside the womb ).
It can also cause no symptoms but you can have it tested if you are sexually active.
How to test for it
It is diagnosed by testing the urine or taking a swab of the discharge .
This can be tested at any laboratory near you.

Treatment is short and effective
It involves a dose of injected antibiotics(Ceftriaxone) and a short course of tablets (Doxycycline or Azithromycin) for both you and your partner.
If testing is not possible, treatment for chlamydia and gonorrhea can often be given together because the symptoms of both infections tend to be the same.
Treating you and your sexual partner means you can get rid of the infection permanently.
